A Cadence-Preparation Lesson for I Saw Three Ships
The guided route separates a bright D-major opening from a minor bridge and final cadence. Section one presents D–G–A7–D/F-sharp. After D/F-sharp locks, the section-complete screen pauses the route; choose Next section for B minor–Em7–A7–D. Preparation means reading the next chart target and changing the correct finger patterns—not moving through horizontal chord zones.
This independently authored chord-control lesson uses a traditional public-domain title as context. It does not reproduce lyrics, melody notation, a recording, samples, backing audio or a third-party arrangement. In Settings, use Wrist tilt for the left-hand world control and Fingers for the right-hand quality control so the mixed major, minor, inversion and seventh targets can lock.

Read the Two-Section D-Major Cadence Route
Section one is D–G–A7–D/F-sharp: I–IV–V7–I in first inversion. Section two is B minor–Em7–A7–D: vi–ii7–V7–I. The first section establishes the major frame and inversion; the second keeps two targets in the minor wrist world before restoring major for the dominant-to-tonic cadence.
For D, use one raised left-hand finger for degree I and one raised right-hand finger for a triad. G uses four raised left-hand fingers for degree IV and one on the right. A7 uses all five left-hand digits for degree V and four right-hand fingers. D/F-sharp returns to the one-finger left degree-I pattern while the right hand uses two fingers for first inversion.
- Target 5: show index plus little finger on the left for degree VI, tilt the left wrist to minor and keep one raised finger on the right for B minor.
- Target 6: keep the left wrist minor, change the left hand to the two-finger degree-II pattern and show three right-hand fingers for Em7.
- Target 7: restore the left wrist to major, show all five left-hand digits for degree V and four right-hand fingers for A7.
- Target 8: return to one raised finger on each hand for a major degree-I D triad.
Use the Lock and Advance Windows for Clean Preparation
A target confirms only when degree, world, quality and octave agree for about 350 milliseconds. After confirmation, the overlay waits 650 milliseconds before showing the next target. Use that short window to release tension, look ahead in the chord chart and decide which left- and right-hand fingers must change.
Keep both wrists in stable, camera-readable areas. Horizontal position does not select degree. On the new target, form the left-hand degree pattern, set the left-wrist world and show the required right-hand quality count. If the label flickers, stop and make the current complete shape readable instead of sweeping a hand across the frame.

Resolve A7 to D With Two Complete Gesture States
For target seven, A7 requires the major left-wrist world, all five left-hand digits for degree V and four raised right-hand fingers. Hold that complete state until the match locks. During the confirmation pause, prepare to close the right hand to one raised finger and the left hand to the one-finger degree-I pattern.
When target eight appears, keep the left wrist in the major world, show one raised finger on each hand and hold D until it locks. The final cadence is complete when both targets are confirmed in sequence; the chart is not advanced by a metronome click or by moving the hand back to a spatial D position.

Use the Fixed 118 BPM Reference and Fix Mixed Targets
First complete both sections with the metronome off. Then enable the optional built-in click, which begins after the first detected chord and runs at the song's fixed 118 BPM. It is a timing reference only; stable recognition advances the targets. The click stops at the section break and can be enabled again after Next section.
If A7 reads as A, keep four right-hand fingertips separated. If Em7 reads as E minor, retain the two-finger left degree-II pattern and minor wrist world while showing three right-hand fingers. If B minor stays major, keep the left index-plus-little-finger degree-VI pattern and tilt the left wrist to minor. A correct visual lock with late sound points to output latency rather than a degree-position error.

I Saw Three Ships Gesture Synth FAQ
Does this lesson include I Saw Three Ships lyrics or melody?
No. It teaches an original eight-target chord-control exercise in public-domain context without lyrics, melody notation, a recording, samples, backing audio or a third-party arrangement.
Which transition is the best accuracy check?
Em7 to A7 changes the left hand from degree II and minor wrist tilt to degree V and major wrist tilt while the right hand changes from three raised fingers to four.
Can I slow the built-in 118 BPM practice click?
No. The guided click uses the song's fixed 118 BPM. Learn the shapes with it off, or use the separate metronome tool when you need a custom slower tempo.
How do I know the final cadence is complete?
A7 and D must each match degree, world, quality and octave for about 350 milliseconds. D appears after the 650-millisecond confirmation pause and finishes the route when it locks.
